Starting the Process
Our objective with every customer is to have you so pleased with our project that you become our best sales agent. We recognize that we will probably only build one home for you, but with your satisfaction we hope you will recommend us to your friends and family. We know the building process is complicated and can be very stressful. We employ the following methods to help guide customers through the construction process and make it as pleasant as possible —
In the initial stages we try to inform you about the many different home designs and options that you may be interested in. As part of this we visit your site and design your home to suit the features of your house lot. A good site design is critical to the project. This is the Design First method.
We then provide you with several rounds of quotes and drawings at no charge. We typically have 3 to 5 meetings with customers spaced 1 to 2 weeks apart, before we are ready to go to the contract phase. During this phase we provide you with an initial quote and detailed description of what is in the quote. We then modify the drawings and quotes to meet your needs during the next several meetings. This gives you precise costs for most items, and the time to consider your options and budget carefully before signing a contract.
Once we have a signed contract we order the home from the factory and start work on your lot. Homes are usually the largest purchase most of us make, so this can become a very emotional process. During this time we try to keep you informed about the major events taking place on your project. We often do email or phone updates about the project. We find this to be a great stress reducer for our customers.
The home arrives- Once the home is set on the foundation there is still work to be done. We are always asked, “How soon can we move in?”. Our approach is to wait until we have completed some of the major elements in the project such as the electric power being hooked up and the heating system functional and then we can provide an estimated move in date.
About completion time – Once we set the home on the foundation it can take anywhere from 3 to 12 weeks to complete. A simple home in ideal circumstances can be completed in 3 to 5 weeks after it is set on the foundation. A more complicated home can take longer. One way prospective customers can reduce the overall length of the process is by completing as much of the lot design, home design, selecting of options and financing approvals as soon as they know they will be building a home.
Thank you for working with Design First Homes,
